Who are the shooters?

Some are beginner, and some are advanced students.  Some are of the Owner & Chief Firearms Instructor, Edward Wilks.  If the guy is REALLY, REALLY fast, and never misses, it’s either Edward or one of his advanced students.  If the guy drops his mag, forgets to have a bullet in the chamber, or sucks in any way, it may be a shooter that has never done anything like this before.

Videos of Beginner Students – Humorous Bloopers & Mistakes

These videos are of the students when they first began training.  It is understandable that they might perform so strangely, especially considering their newness and unfamiliarity with this style of shooting environment.  I prepare and train the students by simulating real-life shooting incidents by including a very large amount of cardiovascular-stress, central-nervous-system-stress, emotional-stress, and mental-stress.  DO NOT BE FOOLED!  These drills are extremely difficult, especially when performed in front of a camera, other students, and when being evaluated for rank advancement in our “martial-art-like” style of class progression.

Videos of Advanced Students – Excellent Performance Under Extreme Difficulty

These videos are of my Advanced Students after many training sessions.  (The acorn does not become the oak overnight.)  Most students come to only one of my classes, get their concealed handgun permit, and then I never see them again.  However, these students take what they have been taught, and go home and practice it over and over.  They have earned the right to be called Advanced Students.  They have demonstrated these skills in 102 degree summer days, and snowy, freezing, winter mornings.  They shoot at night, in the mud, and on the run.  They are very serious about their personal protection and they train very hard to be this good.  Can you say the same?

Videos of the Instructor, Edward Wilks

These videos are of me.  When we do the classes, I perform each drill, each time, for each student.  Sometimes, I will do the drill “lightning fast” to show how quickly it can be done.  Other times, I go for the “smooth & fluid” demonstration to show how it should be done.  The main reason I am so (seemingly) fast and perfect, is because I have (obviously) done these drills HUNDREDS of times.  That’s the key, right there.  (I have been shooting like this, as a police officer or an instructor, for more than 18 years.  I better not suck.)  Doing these drills over, and over, so that it becomes “muscle memory” instead of “thought & response” is the only way to be that proficient.  As you watch these videos, you may think you can do it faster or better, and, that may be.  However, anyone can get lucky and blast all the steel down after trying twenty attempts off camera.  What is important is CONSISTENCY.  Can you say that you could pass these tests, and perform these skills ON DEMAND and do them consistently well, any time, any day, any environment, after running and getting your heart-rate way up, with me yelling in your ear, and jamming my hand into your ribs?  If you can, then you are as prepared and demanding as we are, and we honor your commitment.
